Introducing Taiga Takahashi

We’re excited to welcome Taiga Takahashi to Peggs & son. Founded in 2017, the brand is built on a deep respect for vintage clothing, particularly American workwear from the early 20th century. Taiga Takahashi himself studied these garments closely, looking at how they were made and the materials used, then reworking those ideas into new designs.

Unlike modern mass production, Taiga Takahashi focuses on traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The brand uses natural hand-dyeing techniques that have been passed down for generations and weaves fabrics on old power looms - machines that have mostly disappeared but create a distinctive texture and depth. Many pieces are cut and sewn by skilled artisans, ensuring each garment carries the same level of detail and durability as the originals that inspired them.

The influence of early workwear is clear, but these aren’t just vintage reproductions. Each piece is carefully refined, balancing historical accuracy with a contemporary fit and subtle updates. The result is clothing that feels familiar yet fresh-designed to be worn for decades rather than just a season.

Taiga Takahashi’s dedication to craftsmanship extended beyond clothing. His Kyoto studio, located in the historic Gion district, was as much an artistic space as it was a design workshop, incorporating elements of architecture, sculpture, and traditional tea culture. His approach was about more than just making garments - it was about preserving knowledge and techniques that were at risk of disappearing.

Tragically, Taiga Takahashi passed away in 2022 at just 27 years old, but his team continues his work, staying true to his original vision. His influence lives on through each collection, maintaining the same commitment to detail, quality, and history.
